http://www.happidogs.co.uk/blog.html My Blog <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" id="tabcolumn-1" style="width: 100%; margin-bottom: 15px"><tr><td><div id="column-1" usermodifiable="true" style="width: 100%"><div id="ctrl-33643857"><font size="3" color="#047b42"><b>Walk Club News</b></font></div><div id="ctrl-33643858"><font size="2" color="#3f3f3f">Over the past few weeks we have 2 6 month old German Shepherd females and a 6 month old collie, all 3 of these girls went to my puppy classes and I will tell you briefly about each one</font></div><div id="ctrl-33643859">&#160;</div><div id="ctrl-33643860"><font size="2" color="#047b42"><b>Skye</b></font></div><div id="ctrl-33643861"><font size="2" color="#3f3f3f">Skye was extremely fearful and shy of everyone and everything around her, in class she hid under the chairs and her mum Sharon's legs. We allow her to do this as the worst thing you can do with a young shepherd is force them to face scary things. Over the 6 weeks she got braver and by week 4 was training just like the other puppies still shy but brave enough now to walk around and investigate. This was excellent progress</font></div><div id="ctrl-33643862">&#160;</div><div id="ctrl-33643863"><font size="2" color="#047b42"><b>Tess</b></font></div><div id="ctrl-33643864"><font size="2" color="#3f3f3f">Tess was very much like Skye, but being a collie her fear was much worse, it took 3 weeks before she even dare stand up on her own in class, she spent the whole time hiding behind her mum not even daring to look around. However at week 3 she began to take glances and was sticking her nose in the air when the other dogs past to snatch a sniff of them, we left Tess to decide when she felt brave enough to come out and just gave her special treats when she did. We didn't try to coax her as this can make the behaviour escalate. Like Skye on week 4 she was coming out from her 'safe area' to have a short look around and was listening now to her mum for short training sessions, fantastic news</font></div><div id="ctrl-33643865">&#160;</div><div id="ctrl-33643866"><font color="#047b42"><b>Mia</b></font></div><div id="ctrl-33643867">Mia was the most worrying out of the 3 girls, she had already started to lunge, bark and snap at passing puppies at the age of only 12 weeks, as you can imagine this is not good coming from a young Shepherd. We kept the other puppies away from Mia and kept her busy, busy, busy. Luckily for Mia she had an experienced Shepherd owner for a mum, who kept calm at all times. Mia improved a lot by week 6 but still needed a lot of work or this is the typical young Shepherd who would develop fear aggression at a later stage.
